I'm becoming more and more of an internet presence everyday.

So just now I linked up my Flickr account and this blog with my Facebook page. I didn't know that was possible, but after uploading some pics from my computer I thought to myself, 'self, there has to be a better way', and so I found it. The crazy part is that it may take everything that I put on Flickr to my Facebook page, which wouldn't be good for when I'm taking pics of yarn or half f*cked up projects. I'm going to test it out as soon as I can and see if it works for me.

I just Googled myself, 'Yes, I Googled', and discovered that there are 10 links in the first few pages for me! A couple are Facebook, then there is Plaxo, this blog, LinkedIn, Twitter, Classmates and Spoke. I can't wait until I start my little online business... then I'll really feel like all this time on the computer will be for something. Although, I'm not too hopeful about it because I have a few things posted on Craigslist, Kijiji and Facebook Marketplace and nothing has moved. Fingers crossed. I'd hate to have to put it up on eBay... I hate paying their fees. I had at one point a lot of brand new, never been touched makeup that I posted on eBay - well of the stuff I sold off I lost money! Between eBay fees, PayPal fees and shipping... ugh, forget it. Maybe I'll go old skool and just have a yard sale.

Nonsense about Nonsense

So, I haven't posted much lately and for that I'm sorry. I have to blame some of that on not sleeping much the past couple of weeks, but I have good news! Last night I was exhausted and actually got almost 7 hours of sleep! So I'm feeling pretty good today and now am prepared to serve up some nonsensical nonsense.

Here's the thing... it's summer. This is probably the one season that I can't seem to formulate an opinion about.
~ For one, it's damn hot. I'm not sure if I like that all too much, but I rather have the heat than the freezin' cold. Now that they have the air on at my office I'm constantly chilled and have a light jacket on as we speak. Yesterday it was so cold that I had to step outside and sit in direct sunlight for 5 mins before I felt well enough to go back into the meat locker.
~ I feel that some ladies take it a bit to far when the mercury rises. I shouldn't be able to see the side curve of your boob or the crease under your buttcheek. I don't care if you have a gorgeous body, in fact it pisses me off that you dress like that and with all that skin exposed you better watch out or I'll give you a indian rub burn.
~ I unfortunately don't have this type of body, so I end up wearing jeans all summer. I'm not comfortable in shorts or God forbid, a bathing suit. Ugh! ~ I also hate the electric bills this time of year. The man will have the A/C cranked up 24/7 and then we get a $400+ bill. Who's not surprised?
~ The nice thing is how late the sun goes down and it is still light outside until pretty late too. I'm barbequing at 9pm and I can still see where my beer is... sweet. The sunsets are just fab. Nothing like pink and purple sky!
~ I also love how much more fruit is available during the summer months. I love my watermelon!
~ I thoroughly enjoy the summer events. Yard sales, street fairs, outdoor concerts and fireworks.
~ And then there is getting together with family and friends... that is what I love the most.

Enjoy your summer everyone!

Not sure how to feel about it

Yesterday was a sad day for icons of our culture. Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson both passed away... both way before their time.

Hey! It's hump day!

Well, it's mid-week already, I have another 6 days before I get paid again and here's a shocker... I'm broke. Between my debt, the lower pay rate at this new(ish) job and the bi-monthly pay schedule are killing me.

The only good highlight today is that I'm busy, REALLY busy. I'm going to be busy for the next month or so I think. I've spent so much time bored that I'm not sure if I can really handle doing nothing but work all day. I'll miss Facebook, Ravelry and won't have time to find and put together interesting blog posts. I'll have to find a way to do both... that is now my mission.

Hope you have a great hump day!

For Dad

Happy Monday folks. For those of you who are Dads; Happy Father's Day.

I was able to spend a little time with my Dad this weekend, but certainly not as much as I hoped for. Trying to get around and out of the city on Saturday was a complete joke with the nasty weather and too many people trying to get to too many places. I finally managed to get on a 4:30 bus and down to my Dad around 7 pm... a hell of a lot later than expected, but I got there! We had a really nice dinner at a new restaurant and stuffed ourselves. After dinner my sister spent some time with her friends while Dad and I just relaxed and watched some TV before bed.

Of course I couldn't sleep. It was so unbelievably humid that the sheets and blanket felt wet like they needed to go back in the dryer. The amount of rain the northeast has had in the last week+ has been crazy and the humidity has been through the roof. For some reason I just felt it more out there in the woods. So I decided to read to try and relax, before I knew it it was closing in on 4am. I shut the book and closed my eyes hoping to wake up around 8:30 to get ready to go to breakfast with Dad. Well, that didn't happen. I either didn't set the alarm right, slept through it or shut it off in my sleep because I woke up to the sound of text messages coming through on my cell. I read one from my sister and it asked me where I went... I replied that I hadn't gone anywhere and I was still in bed, that is when I noticed the time. Ugh! A few minutes later my sister popped her head through the door and said that Dad had left and my only response was "Why doesn't he ever wake me up!?"

When I was a kid, my Dad was the one who woke me up just about everyday for school. He was my alarm clock because buzzing, beeping and music don't do a thing (still true to this day). My Dad always made sure I got my butt moving and onto the bus, if I missed the bus (usually quite often) my Dad was my hero and drove me to school. When I was young Dad and I didn't really see eye to eye all the time. Around when I was 9 years old everything he said to me pretty much ended with me in tears... I can't tell you why, I guess I was just an emotional kid. I do remember some great times with Dad from my childhood though... like when he would play the guitar and sing 'Puff the Magic Dragon' for me - I really loved that.

My Dad is where I get all my musical traits; he used to be in a garage band called 'The Visions'. He was their drummer, but he also could play the guitar and sing like no other. I recall driving around in my Dad's metallic burgundy El Camino with the tan leather interior and bed cover (sweetest car ever!) listening to what is now considered 'classic rock'. I knew just about every song that came on the radio and I would sing my little heart out while Dad played 'the drums' on the steering wheel. Those were the days. Fast forward to 1993... I was a sophomore in high school and while in my English class the secretary comes over the intercom and asks for me to come down to the office. When I arrived they informed me that I had a phone call and it was my Mother's assistant, Mark. He had the unfortunate job of telling me that my Dad had been in a car accident and that my Aunt Pauline would be coming to pick me up to bring me to the hospital.

***This is where it gets sad. If you don't want to cry please stop reading.***

I don't remember anything from that point until I was walking into the waiting room and I saw my Mom - then the tears started flowing. I was scared for Dad and felt bad that Mom and I had argued the night before and now today we had to go through this emotional roller coaster hoping that everything was going to be OK. Dad had been on his way to work, going the same way he always did, in his big old Chevy truck. He had done a lot of work on that truck - it was covered in bondo and sanded smooth, just days away from a shiny new paint job. He was sitting at the light behind a trash truck and a glass truck, just waiting for green. He glances into his rear view mirror and sees a truck, a big truck coming up fast to the light and Dad realizes that it isn't going to stop in time. In an instant he dives to the right into the passenger side and the truck slams into him. Dad's Chevy has been bent in half, it has pushed the garbage truck into the glass truck which is now in the middle of the intersection, that is how much force there was in the hit. 911 is called and EMT's find my Dad severely cut up and bleeding. Amazingly my Dad is awake and able to tell them who he is and who to call in the family in the midst of all the pain and blood, looking at the EMT through the slit of his right eye. The medivac helicopter is brought in to take my Dad to the trauma unit and he passes out.

Hours later, after surgery, we are finally able to see him. Most of his head is covered in bandages and he has a cast on his arm. He seems groggy, but overall in good spirits. I recall telling my Dad that if I hadn't gotten the bus that morning that he would have had to take me to school and wouldn't have been at that intersection at that time and none of this would have happened. That is when I saw something that I had never seen my Father ever do... a tear came down his cheek and he said no, it would have been worse because you would have been in the car. This still makes me cry hard... 16 years later. To prove my Dad is a superhero he was only in ICU for a week and then a regular room for another week before they determined he was healing well enough and could finally come home. He still had a lot of bandages on his face and my sister was so young at the time that she was scared of him at first, but once she realized that it was Daddy under there everything was good. It took months for him to heal up well enough to go back to work and it took a lot of courage to get behind the wheel again.

My Dad broke his wrist, pinky finger, nose and cheekbone. He was sliced by the plastic door panel on the passenger side down his forehead and across his eyelid... they said that it was so bad that the flesh on his scalp had been peeled back. He thankfully never needed to have his jaw wired shut, the broken bones in his cheek just seemed to click into place when the doctors went to set it. He underwent many surgeries on his nose to try and help his breathing and still pulls a piece of glass every now and then from his skin. I've seen the after pictures and am saddened at how my handsome Father had been sliced up, but am blown away with how good he looks now. You look at him today you would never know what he went through to survive. If he hadn't looked up and saw the truck... if he hadn't thought fast and moved across the cab of the truck... well, I just don't know what we would have done. My Dad is the rock of our family and has had to pull double duty since Mom passed away in 2001. I thank God every chance I get that he spared my Dad because I wouldn't be who I am today without him.

Dad, if you read this please know that I had to tell your story. People deserve to know how wonderful you are and how lucky Stephanie and I are to have you. We are proud of having such a great man as our Father. We love you.

Happy Friday!

Good morning everyone! I amazingly got close to 6 hours of sleep last night and I'm feeling refreshed. Although I still have the pain in my back by my left shoulder blade (from sleeping just a couple of hours the night before on the couch) it doesn't seem to be as bad today. The other nice surprise this morning was that G woke up at 5am and finished cleaning up some of the stuff I was working on last night, so thanks to him our apartment is beginning to look a bit civilized. I still have everything in the storage closets to go through and boxes in the apartment that need to be dealt with, but overall it doesn't look too bad. I do need to get on it and back on the stuff that I'm selling because I need the dough to visit my Grandmother a month from now.

I wonder if there is a way I can post those things I'm selling here... hmmmm. Right now I have a bluetooth phone for sale, you can check it out on Kijiji or Craigslist. It is an awesome phone, but we only used it for a couple of months and don't really have a need for it anymore. (Those links aren't good forever, but I'll try to update them with the new links until it is sold.)

I've also collected some antique glass items and some other collectibles over the years that are just taking up space. I'm hoping to spend some time next week getting them out of their boxes, cleaning them up, photographing them and getting posted. I'm trying to sell through my local (and free) postings on Kijiji and Craigslist, but if they don't sell that way I'll have to put them up on eBay. I had already posted a few items that way and overall I think I lost money, because there were some items that just didn't move, but that doesn't matter to eBay, you still have to pay them. I'm also thinking of having a yard sale; I'm wondering if the 4th of July weekend would be a good time to do it. I do live on a street that has quite a bit of traffic, so it may work out. The only catch to that is that I need to get all the crap together... that is the hardest part.

I'm sitting here at the office and I sadly don't have any work to do. Some of you may be jealous, but those of you who are like me would be frustrated that there is nothing to work on. For me it hard because my last job took 125% of me all the time; even on the weekends. There was hardly enough downtime for me to eat... never time to check my emails and this blog definitely would be neglected. Since our fiscal year is over at the end of June, I should have a pickup in the amount of work to do in July and August, but there is no way to tell how much. So until there is work to do I'm going to continue to find interesting things to research and post here. I also spend some time looking at crafty stuff for my knitting habit and desire to upcycle the things I find. Then there is also Facebook and its Mafia Wars and Farkle. Oh Facebook how I love thee. I never really got into MySpace although I do have an account because my sister begged me to start one. I just don't like all the spamming and kids on it. Facebook has helped me reconnect with a lot of old friends and helps me share with them everything that is going on. I have to admit... I'm a bit of a voyeur on there looking at everyones pictures. I think that Facebook and Ravelry just allow that part of ourselves to come out and play, you know? I can't help it if you are a bit of an exhibitionist and post that stuff! :)

Stay tuned because my next post will be later today and it will contain some interesting events going on here in 'The Big Apple' over the next couple of months that you are just not going to want to miss!

Carpet doesn't go just on the floor anymore.

I found another interesting site today called 'ample sample'. It seems that someone had the brilliant idea to put the outdated or discontinued carpet samples to some good use and opened the table to the rest of the world for their ideas. It seems that carpet tiles are the way of the future and there are a lot of them out there. Here are some of my favorite submissions that I would probably actually buy/make to use in my own home.

Supercool Eco-Ideas... wish I'd thought of them!

I know, two posts in one day - what's going on?!

I'm feeling inspired by all the new inventions people have created in order to help reduce some of the crap we produce and toss away every year. Below are some of my favorites from a great site I stumbled upon called which had a 'Re-Think and Re-Cycle' design competition back in 2005! It took me a long time to narrow it down, but check out some of my favorites!

What do you see here?

If you weren't sure, it's ok. If you guessed some sort of sea creature, you are getting warmer. If you likened these to an octopus and a jellyfish you are getting hot. If you guessed recycled plastic PET bottles... you are a pretty smart cookie! In my search of ways to reuse/re-purpose/upcycle I found a link to this wonderful artist, Miwa Koizumi, and to my delight... she's a New York'a.

You can click on the photo for more... and here for more and even more here.

For myself this holds my fasination for many reasons. First and foremost, they are beautiful. Secondly, this is a great way to re-purpose something that we would just toss into our recycling bin. Lastly, I have a great appreciation for the creatures of the deep. Enjoy.

Supposed to be sleeping, but I'm not - thinking about Grandma.

So I just finished playing Farkle on Facebook... I had to force myself to stop. It is pretty addictive and reminds me of Yahtzee (haha, Firefox knows what Yahtzee is!) which reminds me of all the times my Grandmother and I would play Yahtzee and she would kick my butt. She is turning 90 next month, but I'm sure that if I played her now that she would still win. She is an amazing woman. Born in 1919, lived through the Great Depression, cared for both her parents when they were on their deathbed, moved from Toledo, Ohio on a whim, met my Navy man Grandfather and married him like 6 months later, dealt with 2 kids while my Grandpa was at sea, traveled the world, was a bookkeeper for many, many years, was my babysitter/tutor/best friend, cared for Grandpa when he was on his deathbed, supported the family when my Mother died, fought breast cancer and won, picked up and moved from her home of 60+ years to Florida, is the secretary & the treasurer for her community and this woman is still sharp as a tack! She plays a game called 'nickels' with her girlfriends every week, loves her cute chihuahua Holly, still drives (only during the day), still manages her finances/investments better than any accountant would, writes me an email every now and again (yea, my Grandma is internet literate!) and loves her family unconditionally no matter what. She has helped me so many times in my life in so many ways, I don't think I can ever thank her properly. My family is getting together to make a special trip down for her birthday and I just can't wait. The only snag is that I'm completely broke, so I'm hoping that I work something out with my Dad so that I can be there for this special occasion. I love my family and even though I technically had 2 Grandmothers, my Grandma Ruth was the only one that I ever had any real bond with. I just pray that I can visit her a hundred more times before it is her time to visit Grandpa in heaven. I love you Grandma.

Great ways to use household stuff for something other than what it was created for...

If you didn't know I'm crazy about stuff that is eco-friendly or finds a way to repurpose stuff we already have. I found this great article... check it out. Actually check out the parent site, Real Simple... they have a ton of cool ideas.

New Blog!!

Hey folks! A warm welcome to those who followed me from Live Journal and a howdy to anyone new who just stumbled across this sorry excuse of a blog.

For those of you who know me, know that I have done a really bad job of blogging up until now. For that I apologize. From this point forward I vow to dedicate a small portion of my day keeping you posted about the nonsense going on in my little zoo.

You may wonder why I keep referring to my life as a zoo... let me explain. It first starts with the occupants of my home. It's me, my boyfriend (referred to as G throughout this blog or just 'the man'), our 2 female dogs Bella (German Shepard/Pit Bull mix) and Rockit (Am.Staff Terrier aka Pit Bull Terrier), our 2 male cats Magellan (G's big boy aka Tubby) and Ronis (real name Tyrone aka little buddy, he is my son), our parakeet Juan Pablo Budgitez, our 50 gal salt water reef tank, our 72 gal planted freshwater tank and one large Jack Dempsey cichlid who doesn't get along with anyone (he'll just eat them). I think that is everyone. To continue the zoo theme, I work in a school. No, I'm not a teacher, but as a member of the admin staff I still have some exposure to all the little kids. On top of this is the drama that somehow finds my younger sister, the work bullsh*t that my father deals with, the amount of work my soon to be 90 year old Grandmother does for her community, the relationship and financial battles that both of my Aunts are going through and my own personal struggles. Yay.

Well, this concludes post one on the new blog as my boss just popped in and delivered me some work to do. Thank goodness. See ya.
